The Scream 5 trailer is finally here, and it looks terrifying

26 years after the first Scream film was released, a fifth film is on its way. Whether you're a loyal Scream fan or you bowed out after the second movie, we reckon you're going to want to add this upcoming instalment to your watch list. With lots of the OG cast making a return to Woodsboro, it's shaping up to be a must-watch horror. Here's everything we know about Scream 5:

Is there a Scream 5 trailer?

Yes, the Scream 5 trailer is finally here! And, as expected, it looks suitably terrifying.

In the new trailer, we can see You's Jenny Ortega receiving texts from an unknown person while the iconic Scream landline phone rings, in a clip which mirrors Drew Barrymore’s opening scene in the original 1996 Scream movie.

Enter person with a Scream mask wielding a knife and, well, you can guess how it goes from there. We can also see Courteney Cox in action as she reprises her role as Gale Weathers, as the characters gather to try to catch the killer.

Alongside the trailer, the Scream franchise and Entertainment Weekly have come together to share a series of first look images from the film and, yep, we're officially excited.

What will Scream 5 be about?

In conjunction with the trailer, Paramount have finally revealed the synopsis for Scream 5, and it seems to follow on from the original 1996 Scream film which took place 25 years ago.

The synopsis reads: "Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past."


The new project is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who were behind 2019 comedy horror Ready Or Not and are both part of the production group making the movie, while The Amazing Spider-Man's James Vanderbilt and Ready or Not's Guy Busick are responsible for the script. Filming kicked off this autumn in Wilmington, North Carolina, and is due to wrap by Christmas.

Who's in the cast of Scream 5?

Neve Campbell will be reprising her role as Sidney Prescott, David Arquette will be back as Dewey Riley and Courteney Cox will return as Gale Weathers. In even more exciting Scream cast news, The Boys star Jack Quaid will be playing a lead role as will You star Jenny Ortega and 13 Reasons Why's Dylan Minnette. According to IMDb, Outsiders actor Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Melissa Barrera, and Jasmin Savoy Brown will also star.

When will Scream 5 be released?

In August 2020, it was announced the film will come out on January 14, 2022. So, yeah, we hope you like scary movies...
