From Seventeen

The Riverdale time jump is finally here. Tonight marks the episode that will propel the story seven years into the future, making Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead all 25 and back in Riverdale for the first time in years. So, what can we expect from Riverdale's highly anticipated time jump? And how much will it change the show and characters we've come to know and love? Here's everything you need to know.

Where will the characters be following the time jump?

Archie

As we know, after seven years in the Army, Archie will be returning to Riverdale, specifically sent there to revive the defunct RROTC program at Riverdale High. Upon returning to town, however, Archie finds that Riverdale is on the verge of collapse thanks to Hiram. So, Archie gathers his old friends to try to fix things while he still can.

Betty

After graduating from Yale, Betty enters the FBI training program, but things aren't going as well for our fave blonde as one might hope. While tracking down a serial killer, Betty makes a mistake that leaves her on the outs with the FBI as she deals with some terrible nightmares. When she heads to Riverdale as a response to Archie's call, she is told to shut down the satellite office there started by her brother Charles, but I wouldn't be too surprised if she starts it up again instead.

Jughead

Unsurprisingly, we find Jughead cooped up in a tiny NYC apartment, working on his second novel. His first one was a success, but now he has major writers block, which he tries handling by drinking excessively. This leaves his apartment in shambles, his girlfriend upset, and debt collectors knocking at his door. Clearly, Jug has seen better days.

Veronica

We already know Ronnie is entering the time jump with a husband, but there's actually much more to the story. After Barnard, Ronnie was working on Wall Street, where she met her beloved Chad, but a freak helicopter accident lead her to take a safer route. Now, though, things are clearly not going too well in her relationship as she reunites with her ex, Archie, in Riverdale.

Toni

Toni seems to be doing pretty well in Riverdale, despite the fact that the town is crumbling around her. After graduating from college, she returned to town, started working at Riverdale High as a guidance counselor, and revived the Serpents. She also bought the White Wyrm with Fangs and Sweetpea and...is pregnant! Though she's not revealing the identity of the father just yet.

Kevin

Kevin seems to be doing OK as well. He went to Carnegie Mellon for college and dated Fangs throughout. Now, the two of them live together as Kevin teaches drama at the high school.

Reggie

Reggie's fate may be the most shocking of all. In the "New Riverdale" he has taken on the role of Hiram's righthand man, slicked back hair and all. That means he has a lot to do with the downfall of Riverdale. Hopefully, we will find out how Reggie found himself in this situation.

When will the time jump take place?

It's almost time! The fourth episode of the season, which will air on February 10th, 2021 at 8 PM ET will official welcome us to the "New Riverdale," seven years in the future.

Will there be any new faces thanks to the jump?

Aside from Veronica's new hubby, there will be a few other new faces hanging around Riverdale as well. Insatiable star Erinn Westbrook will be joining the cast as Tabitha Tate, the granddaughter of Pop Tate, former owner of the town's diner.

According to Deadline, Tabitha is "ambitious" and "entrepreneurial" and she has "come to Riverdale to take over Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe in the hopes of franchising the iconic diner." Of course, this most likely means she will have to face Veronica, the current owner of the establishment.

And while she may not be a new face, it seems like Ashleigh Murray may be popping up in Riverdale once again. Ashleigh's character, Josie McCoy, left town to go on tour with her father and she later became a regular on the now defunct Riverdale spin-off, Katy Keene. Now, it seems we will be seeing Josie once again. Roberto shared an image of Ashleigh on Instagram for her birthday, hinting that a "big reunion" could be coming soon.

Is the time jump definitely happening?

Yes it is. While rumors were floating around for awhile, Riverdale's creator, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, confirmed the news back in May. Instead of seeing Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead head off to college, we will be jumping seven years into the future following their high school graduation.

"To me high school was better than college," Roberto told Entertainment Tonight. "And since all of our characters would be going to different colleges, my instinct has been to leapfrog over four years, and kind of pick up with everyone there." Of course, we now know the time jump will actually bring us seven years into the future, meaning the gang will be about 25 when we see them again.
