Selena Quintanilla's story is one that has been shared among various generations in Latinx culture. From the moment that she came out on the scene, Selena broke down the barriers of both Spanish and English-speaking music and became the Queen of Tejano Music. From sold-out stadiums to best-selling albums, she was an icon. Unfortunately, at age 23, Selena was murdered and her life became a story of tragedy and jealousy. While her story has already been told many times before, including in a hit film starring Jennifer Lopez, this time her family is behind the tale and they're ready to share the truth with the world. So what can we expect from Selena: The Series? And when will the show finally premiere?

Here's everything you need to know about Selena: The Series.

When will Selena: The Series be released?

Selena: The Series will be split into two parts with the first one coming out on December 4, 2020. Netflix revealed that date in a special teaser, seen above, which features series star Christian Serratos in various of Selena's iconic outfits.

What will Selena: The Series be about?

According to Netflix, "Before she became the Queen of Tejano Music, Selena Quintanilla was a young girl from Texas with big dreams and an even bigger voice. The two-part coming-of-age drama Selena: The Series explores the once-in-a-generation performer's journey as a young artist, from singing small gigs in Corpus Christi with her family to becoming one of the most successful Latin artists of all time — and the years of grit and sacrifice the Quintanilla family navigated together before Selena's meteoric rise to fame."

Who is starring in Selena: The Series?

Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide and The Walking Dead star Christian Serratos will be playing the legendary Selena, while Madison Taylor Baez will be playing the younger version of her.

Other series stars include:

  • Ricardo Chavira as Abraham Quintanilla

  • Seidy López as Marcella Quintanilla

  • Gabriel Chavarria as A.B. Quintanilla

  • Noemi Gonzalez as Suzette Quintanilla

On My Block fans will be really excited to see Julio Macias AKA Spooky joining in on the fun as songwriter Pete Astudillo. "That one's going to be a blast," he told Seventeen back in March 2020. "It's gonna be a 180 from OMB."
