Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on June 4.
On February 14, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had announced they were expecting.
Although reports said Markle was planning a home birth, Lilibet was born at a California hospital.
However, following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's exit from the royal family and subsequent move to California, it's already apparent they are doing things their own way when it comes to expanding their family.
Here's everything we know about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's second child, from where she was born to the meaning behind her unique name.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on June 4 in Santa Barbara, California
"She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we've felt from across the globe," the couple said in a statement. "Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family."
On February 14, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had announced they were expecting a new addition to their family
"We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child," a spokesperson for the couple said in a press statement, accompanied by a photograph of the couple taken by a friend, Los Angeles-based photographer Misan Harriman.
Prince Harry revealed they were expecting a girl in their interview with Oprah
After the couple revealed their newest addition would be a girl, Oprah asked Prince Harry how he felt the first time he "saw it on the ultrasound."
"Amazing," he said. "Just grateful - to have any child, any one or any two would have been amazing. But to have a boy and then a girl, you know, what more can you ask for? But now, you know, now we - we've got our family. We've got, you know, the four of us and our two dogs, and it's great."
Despite not giving away too many details about the baby's due date, Markle did reveal to Oprah that the baby would come "this summertime."
The child's name was kept a secret until after she was born, but fans predicted the couple would name her after Princess Diana
Royal insiders said this was "unlikely" to happen due to the press coverage that would surround such a decision.
"They are highly unlikely to call their daughter Diana," a source told Page Six in March. "Their biggest concern is that it would make her a bigger target for the media, and considerably increase public interest in the child's life. Whatever anybody thinks, Harry and Meghan do value their privacy and want to shield their children from the intense media pressure they have endured."
However, the couple did end up naming the child after Prince Harry's mother as well as Queen Elizabeth. According to Insider, the name "Lilibet" is the royal family's longtime nickname for Queen Elizabeth, but the couple will call their baby Lili for short.
"Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet," the couple said in a statement. "Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales."
Lilibet's nickname may also be a subtle nod to Markle's mother, Doria Ragland
Insider reported that fans on Twitter believe the nickname "Lili" may be an homage to Markle's mother because she called Meghan "flower" as a child and continues to do so.
Markle's uncle, Joseph Johnson, spoke to The Sun newspaper in 2019 and recalled a conversation with Doria Ragland when they first learned that Markle was dating the prince.
"All of us were just really stunned. Shocked," Johnson said. "Doria was so excited. She was just saying, 'My little Flower! My Flower's going to be a princess! Wooh-wooh!'"
The royal couple was planning a home birth, according to a report
The report also claimed that the royal couple wanted to have a home birth with Archie, but chose to deliver him in the hospital after doctors advised them to do so.
However, Lilibet Diana was born at a hospital close to the couple's home
The California hospital, Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, is just a 10-minute drive away from the couple's home in Montecito.
Born in the United States, Lilibet Diana will be granted automatic American citizenship, in addition to British citizenship due to her father Prince Harry's citizenship. Archie, the Sussex's first child, is also a "natural born" US citizen.
Harry and Markle seem to be planning to have no more kids after their second royal baby
In response to a question from Oprah about whether the couple was "done," Prince Harry responded, saying, "Done."
"Two is it," Markle confirmed.
Lilibet is eighth in line for the throne
The royal baby pushes back Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice, and Princess Eugenie's claim to the throne, while leaving Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Prince Harry, and Archie ahead in succession. Harry and Markle's second child is the Queen's 11th great-grandchild.
It is unlikely that Prince Harry or any of his children will ascend to the throne.
