Fans of The Umbrella Academy were definitely not surprised to see so many new characters join in on the ultimate end-of-the-world party during season 3, especially with the introduction of The Sparrow Academy. And while it was obvious we were going to see our fave superhero family all over again, there is one character who prompted gasps, and that is none other than Lester. You might be wondering, hey...we actually never *met* Lester Pocket before. But buckle up. Are you ready to learn more about one of season 3's biggest reveals?

Here's everything you need to know about Lester Pocket from The Umbrella Academy.

Wait, we met Lester Pocket before?

Yes, but a lot has changed since we first met him, including his name. The time jumps might make it a little confusing, but Lester Pocket is actually a fake name Harlan Cooper used when he was growing up. When Sissy finally left home after Carl's death, she and Harlan started over with totally new identities, in part because Harlan's powers were the reason why his father was dead.

What has happened to him since we last saw him?

As Viktor knows, growing up with powers isn't easy. Although Viktor initially thinks he got rid of it all when he tried to take his powers back from Harlan at the end of season 2, it is later revealed that Harlan still has some of Viktor's powers in him.

Throughout the years, Harlan has a hard time keeping them at bay, which also causes him and Sissy to move a lot. Eventually though, Sissy gets sick with cancer and dies on the same day The Umbrella Academy is born. Harlan, overcome with grief, accidentally sets his powers off. Unable to stop, he kills the mothers of the members of The Umbrella Academy and sparks the grandfather paradox when they return to their time.

Where is "Lester" now in season 3?

We first see Harlan riding a bus, where he opens up his suitcase and shows off his special cassette cases. Later on, we realize these recordings help him focus and relax when things around him get too overwhelming, which can trigger his powers.

Harlan ends up checking into The Hotel Obsidian and tries to find Viktor in the city. As Viktor and Allison walk outside one night, Harlan can be seen following them, but he hides when Allison spots him. Luckily, he is able to disappear on time before she tries to attack him.

Back in The Hotel Obsidian, The Sparrow Academy appears to take down The Umbrella Academy for good. Before they succeed, Harlan notices what is happening and uses his powers to protect them, accidentally killing Jayme and Alphonso.

Viktor immediately realizes it's Harlan and tries to protect him when the rest of the Sparrows want him dealt with after killing their siblings. After the Umbrellas get together to come up with a plan to get rid of the kugelblitz, Viktor lies to them and says he will bring Harlan down so he can face his actions.

Harlan reveals the truth about what happened to The Umbrella Academy's mothers when Sissy dies and Viktor realizes that killing Harlan won't stop the world from ending. Instead, Viktor and Harlan escape from the hotel with the help of Allison, and Viktor tries to get his powers from Harlan again so he can live a normal life.

At an abandoned diner, the two attempt the power exchange and are eventually successful. The final attempt knocks Viktor out for a bit, leaving Harlan and Allison alone. He accidentally reveals to her that he is the reason why all their mothers are dead and the reason behind the grandfather paradox. Blaming him for why she's stuck in the current timeline and why she is unable to go back to Ray and Claire, she kills him and delivers his body to the Sparrows before Viktor wakes up.

Who plays Lester Pocket/Harlan Cooper?

Harlan is played by Callum Keith Rennie in season 3 of The Umbrella Academy. He previously appeared in Longmire, Battlestar Gallactica, and Californication. Justin Paul Kelly plays the younger version of Harlan in seasons 2 and 3.
