Everything We Know About Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, and Lili Reinhart’s New Movie Hustlers

Hustlers is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated new movies this year. Led by Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu, this Ocean's 8 meets Magic Mike hybrid centers on a group of strippers who dupe their male clients out of thousands. That premise is already enough to hook me, but get this: J.Lo and Wu are starring alongside Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Cardi B, and so many more of your faves. And you won't have to wait long for it to come out, either.

Find out the release date, and some more details about the movie, below.

The trailer: After the cast teased us with a series of mini clips, the first trailer, set to Cardi B's "Money," is officially here—and it's fantastic. The opening scenes show Lopez giving Wu lessons on how to dance on the pole. "Front hook. Ankle hook. Knee hook,” she says while demonstrating the moves. "From here you can do the carousel.” Throughout the trailer J. Lo offers up some highly quotable dialogue, including, "The game is rigged, and it does not reward people who play by the rules. It’s like robbing a bank except you get the keys. Are you in?” and "We're a family now—a family with money." Oh, and there's a Lizzo sighting.

Watch for yourself, below.

Earlier in July the cast shared sneak peeks at the trailer:

The release date: On Monday, April 15, Lopez took to Instagram to announce the release date for Hustlers: September 13. "Thass right SEPTEMBER 13. @hustlersmovie coming to a theater near you," she posted. For context: The movie only started shooting in March, so this is a fast turnaround.

The plot: Based on the 2015 New York magazine article "The Hustlers at Scores," Lopez's movie centers on a group of women who scam their wealthy clients out of thousands of dollars.

The cast: Not much is known about specific characters right now, but the actors involved in this project are phenomenal. Julia Stiles is playing Jennifer, the journalist who uncovers this scheme (based on Jessica Pressler); Lopez is playing Ramona; Constance Wu is playing Daisy; Madeline Brewer is playing Dawn; and Cardi B is playing Serena. Lili Reinhart and Keke Palmer are also involved, though their character names are unknown. Lizzo announced on Wednesday, April 24, that she's also joining the cast.

The cast members have shared many pictures on social media from behind the scenes. Check out just a few of their uploads:

Palmer posted this Instagram Stories video selfie, which included Lopez, Wu, and Reinhart:

Over Labor Day weekend, J. Lo shared a sneak peek at her first scene with Cardi B. "It’s a Labor Day surprise!!!!!!! Here’s a look at my first scene with @iamcardib from @HustlersMovie! Don’t miss a new trailer coming tomorrow. ❤️💰 #HustlersMovie," she posted on Instagram.

The vibes: This movie is going to be op-u-lent. Lopez's hairstylist, Frank Galasso, shared this behind-the-scenes snap of "Ramona."

And the other characters have just as extravagant looks. Paparazzi snapped Wu, Lopez, and Brewer on set, and their style transformations tell a story all their own:

The stripping scenes are making Lopez feel vulnerable: “It’s a nightmare thinking about being up there. I’m exposing myself, let’s say, in a way, emotionally and physically more than I’ve ever done in a movie,” she said on the Elvis Duran Z00 Morning Show in April 2019. "And I’ve done love scenes and this and that, whatever, but not like I was up there like that. I take sexy pictures and all that kind of stuff. I’ve done videos that are very sexy…. It’s not that, but this is a different mentality and so as an actress it’s a scary…for me, it’s not scary, it just makes me nervous.”

Lopez did tons of research and even took her fiancé to the club:

In an interview with Vulture, the film's director, Lorene Scafaria, said that Lopez dived deep into the research for her role. Lopez trained like crazy—a few videos of her pole-dancing classes have made it online—and she even reportedly enlisted her future husband, Alex Rodriguez, to go to the strip club with her for a firsthand look at her character's world.

“She’s obviously such an unbelievable dancer, but she trained so hard-core for this," Scafaria said. "Pole dancing is not like anything else. It required muscles you don’t know you have. So we did treat it a little bit like a sports movie in that way. She and Alex went and visited a strip club, and she was able to give me some…insights."

The movie is going to pack an emotional punch: We know this based on what Stiles said recently at the DVF Awards: "There’s actually a deeply rooted emotional story behind it, so everybody’s been really respectful. It’s great.”
