Everyone Slicked Back Their Hair at the Emmys

The stars on the red carpet of the 2016 Primetime Emmy Awards couldn’t help but talk about how hot it was in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon (it was about 86 degrees at that point). We wonder if that was why the hairstylists for several actresses opted for slicked-back looks for the evening. With the help of a healthy amount of gel, everyone from Black-ish’s Tracee Ellis Ross to Stranger Thing’s Millie Brown, could keep all eyes on their gorgeous faces and look perfect from hour one till long into the afterparties.

Aviva Perea cited a different factor for choosing a tight chignon for Modern Family’s Ariel Winter. “Ariel is wearing a gorgeous statuesque gown, so we wanted to keep the hair and makeup shiny and minimal,” Perea said. “I really wanted to make sure that her hair was super shiny to work with the shininess of the dress.”

To begin, Perea applied Matrix Style Link Skinny Queen Smoothing Blowout Cream to Winter’s wet, clean hair, and blowed it out with a large, round brush. Then she applied Matrix Style Link Prep Heat Buffer Thermal Styling Spray from the middle of her hair to the end, to protect it as she flat-ironed it. With Matrix Style Link Super Fixer Strong Hold Gel on Winter’s hair from roots to ends, Perea used a mixed-bristle flat brush to put it into three ponytails at the base of her neck. She divided each of those ponytails in two to twist around each other and wrapped each section into a bun secured by bobby pins. Matrix Style Link Gloss Booster provided the finishing touch.
