Hugh Jackman’s Latest Selfie Is Freaking Everyone Out

Is he sick? Did he miraculously age 10 years overnight? Is it just makeup for his upcoming film? People are wondering what in the world is going on with Hugh Jackman after the actor posted a photo of himself on Instagram looking shockingly gaunt and exhausted.

In the pic, 47-year-old Jackman is standing at a dining room table, posing with his thumbs up behind a tray of cooked whole fish. “Now that’s what I’m talking about!” he captioned the photo, hinting that he might have caught the fish himself, as he’s shared other photos of his fishing excursions. Suffice it to say, though, very few people were paying attention to the seafood feast. Instead, users were fixated on Jackman’s sunken cheeks and the puffy bags around his eyes.

“It’s just the lighting that makes him look old,” speculated one user. “Looking like 60 years old … what’s wrong with your look?” asked another.

“Lets be real…Steroids and Growth Hormone hyper accelerate the aging process…we all know Hugh,” another user snidely commented, while more concerned fans offered support (“Ohh c’mon maybe he just had a rough night…and today he is just recovering with those yummy fish dinner…Bon apetite Hugh!!!”) and came to the star’s defense (“People age. Get over it”).

But just two weeks ago, Jackman posted a photo of himself with his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, in which he looks healthy and vibrant. Plenty of Instagrammers chalked up Jackman’s appearance in his latest photo to makeup for his role in Wolverine 3, which is filming now. “I think he’s prepping for Old Man Logan and there is nothing to worry about. I don’t think he has any health issues honestly,” one user pointed out, referring to the third movie in the trilogy. Though the plot of the film has yet to be disclosed, Jackman has hinted that it may be based on “Old Man Logan,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

This would mean Jackman is playing a version of Wolverine in the post-apocalyptic future. The role would require a lot of makeup to transform the handsome, ordinarily youthful-looking star into an elderly man. And once an actor is in makeup, he might stay that way all day, long after he’s filmed a scene — and maybe even forget about it when he’s having his photo taken.

In the photo, Jackman is sporting his signature Wolverine beard, along with an earbud connected to a smartphone. He makes no mention of his look, but appears happy and excited to dig in to his meal.
