It's not just you. Mickey Mouse has been everywhere lately – even more than usual for the universally beloved rodent. In honor of Mickey's 90th birthday on November 18 (his debut in a cartoon short,
Steamboat Willie), Disney's throwing a party across the world. But unlike our own insignificant birthdays, Mickey's includes a massive PR play featuring special food products, a massive interactive art exhibit located in the heart of Manhattan, and the crème de la crème, designer capsule collections.
Mickey has a long history of influencing some of the greatest creative minds, from Andy Warhol to Jeff Koons to, more recently,
Gucci's creative director Alessandro Michele. For Mickey's birthday, plenty more fashion designers are stepping in to show off their love for the icon.
With the sheer number of collaborations taking place for the milestone, it can be feel overwhelming to deduce which collaborations are worth the investment (are their products
actually better than what's available at the parks?) and which ones are even happening (like the super niche collabs launching in Italy). It takes a special fan to devote their life to religiously tracking the sartorial rise of Disney. ( Hi, that's me.) While I'm not the only one — others you should follow include Nylon's former senior fashion market editor, Marissa Smith, and Disney Style's strategist, Ilana Gelfand — I come with a passion for sharing my expertise with fellow obsessives and gift shoppers.
So I present you with: The Ultimate Disney Fan's Guide To The Best Fashion Collaborations Happening In Honor of The True Original's 90th Birthday (
@ me if you can come up with a shorter name for this).
Release Date: November 7
About The Collab: What better way to celebrate a birthday than with a party? Karen Walker's Disney collab is a festival of fun with a lookbook boasting balloons, plush-y Mickey hands, and an assortment of bright-colored products to match. The New Zealand native went all in with a full collection that includes ready-to-wear, eyewear, jewelry, accessories, and homeware. On the collaboration, the designer's team shares that "both Mickey and Karen’s Runaway Girl have an inherent sense of adventure, so the collection is a nod to the heritage of both brands and celebrates their fun love and adventurous spirit."
What To Expect: A sunny color palette that incorporates pretty pinks, bright yellows, polka dots, and a few black and white pieces added to the mix.
The One Thing Die-Hard Disney Fans Should Buy: The Mickey and Minnie Mouse inspired eyewear are the real winners here. Adorned with polka dots, pink lenses, and even a clever method of incorporating Minnie's larger than life lashes, these sunglasses are one-of-a-kind when it comes to Disney merch.
Hidden Mickey: If you do opt for a pair of sunglasses, they come in a cute detailed case shaped like Minnie's iconic red bow.

Rag & Bone
Release Date: November 1
About The Collab: Where Karen Walker's collab tapped into our feminine side, Rag & Bone's exudes pure cool. Rag & Bone describes the unisex collection as a reimagining of "his heritage with a New York sensibility."

The Piece Die-Hard Disney Fans Should Buy: The Fit 2 denim pants. The jeans use bold colorblocking, as seen on the embossed leather pocket and the upturned cuffs.

About The Collab: If there were ever a Disney collab that's actually the perfect meeting of minds, it's Disney x Gigi Burris. The whimsical hat maker, who grew up in Florida with Walt Disney World right in her backyard, has always had a flair for exaggerated fun, resulting in hats that celebrities can't get enough of. Burris injects some of her own personal magic into her nine-piece collection that focuses on Mickey's style evolution through the ages. Of the collection Burris shares, “I wanted to create a forward-thinking take on the ears that looks as welcome at Walt Disney World as it would on the streets of New York.”
What To Expect: A mixture of Mickey ear headbands (unlike anything you'll find at the parks), and original hats, like a captain’s hat that alludes to Mickey's Steamboat Willie days and a square brimmed hat modeled after the one Mickey wears as a conductor in The Band Concert.
The Piece Die-Hard Disney Fans Should Buy: The wire-frame ears are cute, but Disney fans on a hunt for something truly original should look towards the Icon cap (pictured left). The Icon hat, available in three colors, is a limited edition drop with only 30 hand-numbered pieces available per color.
Hidden Mickey: Hold onto your hat(boxes). With each purchase, you'll receive an exclusive holographic hat box that comes lined in Mickey print tissue. You definitely won't be tossing out this packaging.

About The Collab: Vans is no stranger to partnering with Disney. In the past, they've released a myriad of collaborations featuring Pixar characters, Princesses, and Villains. For their latest partnership, the focus is solely on Mickey and his leading lady, Minnie. According to Vans, the collection is "founded on 11 designs that capture Mickey Mouse’s spirit and evolution spanning from his introduction in the late 1920’s to present day." The collection ranges from footwear to apparel to accessories.
What To Expect: You'll find commemorative details, like a Sk8-Hi that showcases iconic scenes from Mickey's black and white silent film, Plane Crazy, a pair of slip-on sneakers adorned with large, puffy Minnie bows, and a special collection of neon prints reminiscent of the '80s.
The Piece Die-Hard Disney Fans Should Buy: Longtime Mickey fans will love this Sorcerer's Apprentice inspired pair of Sk8-His. The sneakers depict Mickey's hat from the Fantasia vignette, with embroidered stars and moons and a blue velvet finish.

About The Collab: The most toned-down of the bunch, the Lacoste collection is perfect for those who like to take a more classic approach when it comes to their Disney merch.

Shop polo shirts featuring embroidered graphics, tote bags with a match-ready Mickey head, and other various items depicting the two characters dressed for the tennis court.
The Piece Die-Hard Disney Fans Should Buy: Swap out your worn-down go-to bag for schlepping with the Mickey tote. It's roomy, well-made (with leather!), and features Mickey in a sweat band.

About The Collab: When Opening Ceremony's cofounders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim announced they would be shutting down Disneyland's Toowntown to show the collection, we already knew it was going to be good. To comprehensively read up on the collaboration, check out our coverage on the fashion show here and the collection here.
