Even Rihanna Is Obsessed With This Classic Ladylike Shoe
Chanel’s two-tone pumps have stood the test of time. First introduced by house founder Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in 1957 – who described the footwear as “the last point of elegance” – the style remains a firm favorite among the fashion set more than 60 years on, as proven by Rihanna, who recently wore a pair for an outing West Hollywood.
Testament to the shoe’s versatility timeless appeal, Rihanna wore her classic toe-cap Chanels with white jeans, a cropped tank from her own Savage X Fenty line and an oversized coat from Peter Do for a daytime stroll with her partner, A$AP Rocky.
Rather than opting for the original beige and black colorway, Rih instead picked an embellished silver pair – one of many contemporary versions that Virginie Viard has released during her tenure at the maison.
Rihanna follows a long line of celebrity fans. Alexa Chung, Vanessa Paradis, Lucy Boynton and Sofia Richie – who wore exclusively Chanel on her wedding day last month – have all championed the slingbacks over the years. Other stars, meanwhile, have fallen for Chanel’s two-tone ballerina flats, debuted by the late creative director Karl Lagerfeld in 1984.
