Eva Mendes Explains Why She Hasn't Made a Movie Since 2014

If you've noticed that it's been a while since Eva Mendes had a big-screen role, you're not the only one — but you're probably not going to call her out on it via Instagram comment. Someone did, however, and Mendes commented right back, telling the troll that there was a reason for it: she wants to set an example for her daughters.

Mendes's past movies include Hitch, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico, just to name a few. But her last role was in 2014, when she starred in Lost River. It's 2020 now, meaning Mendes's hiatus has been at least five years, but she's not sweating it.

"As a mother now, there are many roles I won't do. There are many subject matters that I don't want to be involved with, so it limits my choices and I'm fine with that. I have to set an example for my girls now," Mendes wrote. "But no worry, I got some side hustles. Ha! Thanks for asking. All the best for 2020."

Those "side hustles" include a collection with New York & Co., but she hasn't ruled out a return to Hollywood, as long as there's "something worthwhile to be a part of." For now, she's happy to focus on her daughters, Esmeralda, 5, and Amada, 3.

"I'm just so obsessed with my kids that I don't want to leave them," Mendes told E! News. "They're just still so little."
