‘Euphoria’ Star Hunter Schafer Joins the ‘Hunger Games’ Prequel Cast—and Will Play a Very Important Role

First, Billy the Kid star Tom Blyth was cast to play Coriolanus Snow (aka President Snow) in the highly anticipated Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Then, West Side Story actress Rachel Zegler joined the ensemble cast as well. Now, another cast member has been announced—and she comes straight from the halls of East Highland High School.

That’s right. Euphoria star Hunter Schafer is set to play Tigris Snow, who happens to be Coriolanus’s eldest cousin and prized stylist of the early Hunger Games. Her character will play a very important role in the narrative. Tigris will be her cousin’s mentor and confidant, occasionally acting as Coriolanus’s moral compass as well.

Schafer is best known for playing Jules in the popular HBO series, Euphoria. The 23-year-old actress will be joined by Ms. Marvel star Lauren Marsden, who will play Mayfair Lipp—a young woman from District 12 who names Lucy Gray Baird (Zegler) as a tribute to the tenth annual Hunger Games.

This news comes a few weeks after Lionsgate released the first official teaser for the Hunger Games prequel. The video starts in a cold-winter forest, where tree branches are fully encased in snow. The ice begins to slowly thaw, revealing a golden songbird and snake underneath.

Meanwhile, there is bold black text that flashes across the screen, reading, “You’re invited to return to the game in 2023. The world will discover who is a songbird and who is a snake.” The teaser clip ends with the songbird freed from the wintery ice and the official release date: November 17, 2023. The movie will revolve around a young Coriolanus Snow, years before he becomes the President of Panem.
