'Euphoria' Star Eric Dane Has 'No Regrets' About His Sex Tape
HBO's Euphoria might have become known as the show with all the penises, but to one of its actors, that nudity serves a purpose. "If it’s going to be more organic, sincere, or truthful—then I’m willing to do that," Eric Dane, who plays Cal Jacobs, recently told Glamour. And if any male working actor knows about showing flesh, it's Dane.
"The common denominator is that I'm naked," he said, referring to both his role in Euphoria and his turn as Dr. Mark "McSteamy" Sloan in the long-running medical drama Grey's Anatomy.
Dane is totally comfortable with his own body, and doesn't feel shame in being naked. So much so, in fact, that in the interview he actually took back the statement he initially made to People after a tape leaked in 2009 showing him naked in a bathtub with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and another woman.
“I often think about that answer I gave," he said. "And looking back now, was it a mistake? Absolutely not. Three consenting adults, one of them being my wife? I wasn’t doing anything wrong. I was most likely referring to the drug use that was alluded to in the video, and was that a mistake? Again, I don’t necessarily think I was breaking any laws and corrupting anybody. We were just three people taking a bath."
In the same interview, Dane spoke about his own experiences with addiction and depression, which he believes have helped him bring more nuance and humanity to the character of Cal in Euphoria. He's clearly a man who has done plenty of self-reflection, and had come out the other side happier and more secure.
"I have no regrets, nor do I make any apologies for my life experience," he said. "It’s my life experience and I am at peace with all of it."
