Erin and Ben Napier Announced Which City They'll Transform on The First Season of 'Home Town Takeover'

• HGTV power couple Erin and Ben Napier just revealed that the city of Wetumpka, Alabama, will receive a total makeover on their new show Home Town Takeover.

• Wetumpka was chosen in part because of its abundant community spirit. "They love their city and they want to revitalize it," Erin says.

Erin and Ben Napier are headed for sweet home Alabama!

The couple appeared on The Today Show on Thursday to announce Wetumpka, Alabama, as the lucky recipient of a full-city facelift for their new HGTV show, Home Town Takeover.

Wetumpka, a small city north of Montgomery that is home to 8,278 people, was chosen by HGTV from 5,000 submissions from towns across the U.S.

"[HGTV] wanted to pick a town that was going through what all small towns go through," Ben told The Today Show's Jenna Bush Hager and Willie Geist. "There were young people leaving and not coming back; major highways had been diverted to avoid the town."

The network also wanted to choose a town that had faced adversity, which Erin says Wetumpka "100 percent embodies" due to the devastation the community suffered from a 2019 tornado.

"And then on top of all that, the thing that really mattered the most, is that they have so much community spirit," Erin added. "They love their city and they want to revitalize it."

As the stars of HGTV’s Home Town, Erin and Ben transformed the old, rundown houses in their own home town of Laurel, Mississippi, into residents's dream homes. Now, they're taking their renovation skills to Wetumpka for another town-wide revitalization project that will also include renovating small businesses and public spaces.
