Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova Welcome Baby No. 3!
Enrique Iglesias and his wife Anna Kournikova have been together for 18 years.
The couple started dating in 2001 after meeting on the set of his "Escape" music video.
They are parents to one-year-old twins Nicholas and Lucy.
It's hard for Hollywood couples to maintain their privacy, but Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias, 44, and his wife, former Russian professional tennis player, Anna Kournikova, 38 have figured it out.
According to People, the couple first met on the set of his "Escape" music video, and since, the two have managed to keep most of their relationship under wraps throughout their 18 years together.
In "Escape," Kournikova played Iglesias's love interest—and the rest is history. Ok, not exactly, but the sparks definitely flew soon after. During his MTV Making of the Video feature in 2001, he spoke candidly about his future wife.
"She's beautiful, talented, great tennis player," he says. "It doesn't take a good actor to kiss Anna and try to make it believable."
Way before meeting Iglesias, Kournikova became an international tennis pro at 14. Despite never winning a title on her own, she ranked no. 8 in the world in 2000, according to the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).
With her partner, Martina Hingis, Kournikova won Grand Slam titles in Australia in 1999 and 2002, and the WTA Championships in 1999 and 2000. After a successful career, Kournikova retired at 21 because of a back and spinal problem, including a herniated disk. She does still continue to play every now and then, though.
And based on the timeline of the "Escape" video, it was also around that time that she met her future husband, Iglesias. In honor of their long lasting romance, here's a look back at how it all started.
2001: Iglesias and Kournikova met on the set of his "Escape" music video.
The chemistry between the two in this music video is undeniable—so it's no wonder their relationship became real behind the camera.
2002: Kournikova and Iglesias made their red carpet debut.
At the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, the couple let the world know they were an item by walking the red carpet together.
Iglesias also performed his hit song "Hero" while Kournikova watched in the audience.
2003: Iglesias and Kournikova walked their second red carpet together.
Iglesias starred in Robert Rodriguez's 2003 film Once Upon a Time in Mexico. To show her support, Kournikova walked the red carpet with him.
2004: Rumors of Kournikova and Iglesias being engaged began.
During the 2004 World Team Tennis game, the former tennis pro was spotted wearing a massive pink diamond ring on her ring finger. The two never confirmed or denied if they were actually engaged.
2006-2012: Fans wanted to know: Are Iglesias and Kournikova together?
In May 2007, Iglesias told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that he and Kournikova had secretly married—and gotten a divorce.
"We're divorced. I am single now, but that's okay," he said, according to People.
"I don't mind being alone."
But after that story came out, his rep commented that after five years, "they are still together."
Then, in 2008, Kournikova told People that she didn't see herself ever becoming a Mrs.
"I'm never getting married," she said before adding that "Everything is good" with her and Iglesias. Days after the tennis pro's comments, the singer told reporters he's been trying to marry Kournikova for years. "I always try, but she pays me no attention," he said, according to People.
A few years later, in 2011, Kournikova told Women's Health that one of her goals was to become a mother.
"I absolutely want to have children, whether I have my own or adopt," she said. "I love taking care of people."
She also spoke more about her views on marriage.
"Marriage isn't important to me. I'm in a happy relationship—that's all that matters," she said. "I believe in commitment. I believe in being open and trusting each other and respecting each other completely."
In a 2012 interview with Parade, Iglesias echoed Kournikova's sentiments.
"I've never really thought marriage would make a difference," he said. "Maybe it's because I come from divorced parents, but I don't think you love somebody more because of a piece of paper."
2014: Iglesias sparked marriage and divorce rumors...again.
During an Oct. 10, 2014 performance at the Los Angeles' Staple Center, the singer told reporters he had ended his marriage to Kournikova—though at that point, no one even knew the two were actually married.
"Right now, I'm divorced," he said, according to HuffPost. "I got a divorce three days ago, and I wanted to give you guys the exclusive. I'm serious. No, seriously. Don't laugh."
As previously mentioned, Iglesias did the exact same thing in 2007. So clearly...it's something he likes to joke around about?
2016: Kournikova and Iglesias became Instagram official... sort of.
