A recent book I enjoyed: I recently read Zoraida Córdova’s adult debut, The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina, which was such a fantastic novel. I highly recommend it, especially if you’re a fan of family secrets and magical realism. The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina is unlike any other fiction novel I’ve read, and really sets Zoraida apart from other authors. She thrusts you straight into the life of Orquídea and her grandchildren, with little explanation, but you figure it out as the story progresses. Córdova has weaved together a story about strong women, vulnerability, resentment, and loss, and every word wholeheartedly resonated with me. Orquídea is a gritty, resilient, and beautiful woman with a wonderful family, and Zoraida’s stellar writing truly brought them to life.

This book was phenomenal in every way! Oh, how I love the deep sarcasm of Andy Weir’s writing. I laughed out loud multiple times, and if I was someone who cried reading books, I may have shed some tears. This was, bar none, the best audiobook I have EVER listened to. The narrator was brilliant and fantastic at comedic timing (also other reasons, but I don’t want to give anything away!).

The author speaks about the experience of being brown, Indian, South African, Muslim, and a woman in this world without destroying the light, gentle feel of the book. It is funny, honest, and vulnerable in a way that makes you feel comfortable. The adventures feel tangible because her writing is accessible, which makes you as the reader feel a part of the journey rather than an outsider looking in. It is this exact quality that makes me love this book so much. I imagine that everyone who has read it is connected by these adventures because we've all been on them with Shubnum. I have always loved New York City, and this story of August and Jane and their friends felt like a love letter to NYC. Casey weaved a heartwarming story through the backdrop of one of the greatest cities in the world, while recognizing its imperfections. They took the crowded subway cars, rats in the tunnels, and threats of gentrification, and made them SPARKLE with human emotions. There's a fantastical element that might not be for everyone, but I found it to be beautifully charming!

It reduced me to tears at many points while also marveling at the characters’ resilience.

About me: My name is Julietta, but you can call me Julie or Jules; I'm a 21-year-old psychology student, a proud Muslim, and an Indonesian. I've read books since I was in elementary school, and my all-time favorite genre is fantasy. I made my bookstagram account back in December 2019 but just started being active there in November 2020 because I need some place to express my love for books and to interact with book lovers from other countries.
What followers can expect: My bookstagram is like my digital reading journal. Within my account you can find book reviews, book aesthetic edits (the book or the characters from the book), book journal spreads, and a dark academia theme in my feed. I'm a big fan of Grishaverse, The Raven Cycle series, The Shadowhunters Chronicles, and The Folk of the Air series, so you'll find me posting a lot about these book series. Besides that, I also post A LOT of Shadow and Bone TV series video edits because I'm OBSESSED with it.
A recent book I enjoyed: I've been obsessing over A Darker Shade of Magic. I honestly love V. E. Schwab's writing so much! A Darker Shade of Magic is one of the coolest and amazingly written books I've ever read this year. It's a high fantasy, with cool fight scenes, awesome characters, and rich world building!

All you need to know is that I’m a queer Puerto Rican bookworm who buys too many books, always says they’re going on a book-buying ban (and breaks them), and is very honest. A recent book I enjoyed: I recently read and loved You Had Me at Hola by Alexis Daria. It’s an adult romance featuring a diverse cast of characters, telenovelas, and lots of typical family fun. I loved the steamy romance, but there's something about the family dynamic and the telenovela aspect that just stole my heart. I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel.
