Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler are back, baby, this time in Murder Mystery 2. But what happens at the end of the Netflix comedy-mystery, and who was the pilot?

What happens in Murder Mystery 2?

Now full time detectives, married couple Nick and Audrey Spitz (played by Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston) are back solving a mystery four years after their original case.

This time round, they're struggling to get their private detective agency off the ground, when they're inviting to a secluded island to celebrate their friend Maharaja's (Adeel Akhtar) wedding.

When the groom is kidnapped for a ransom, the pair finally have a chance to solve the case and make their private eye agency a success - while also getting their long-awaited trip to Paris.

After Maharaja (Adeel Akhtar) aka Vik is kidnapped from his own wedding, Nick and Audrey figure out there can only be a few people who have asked for the $70 million ransom (roughly £56 million). Those are Vik’s business partner Francisco, Vik’s sister Saira, fiancée Claudette, ex-girlfriend Countess Sekou and her BFF Imani.

In order to find him, the family hire Connor Miller, an ex-SAS and kidnapping exert, who is tasked with blackmailer negotiations, while Nick and Audrey are responsible for the ransom money in Paris. Unfortunately, the handover goes wrong; resulting in Countess Sekou and Imani killing each other, and Connor's van blowing up.

Eventually, Nick and Audrey find themselves on the way to meet the mystery kidnappers at a restaurant halfway up the Eiffel Tower, with the ransom money in hand. There, they are joined by Interpol's Inspector Delacroix , Claudette, Saira, Francisco and Vik's former bodyguard Colonel Ulenga.

The elevator door then dings, and Vik appears with a bomb strapped to him, along with a message stating that the money must be sent up to the top floor within one minute.

It's at this point that Nick realises that Connor, aka the kidnapping expert, is the blackmailer, who then swings into the room explaining that he faked his own death.

A tourist then emerges in the lift (clearly in the wrong place) and Nick uses this as an opportunity to grab the detonator from Connor, who is attached to a zip line to escape. In the commotion, Audrey grabs onto him, while Delacroix gives his gun to Nick after becoming injured.

Nick, Audrey and Connor then all end up on the roof, where Audrey threatens to throw the suitcase from the tower. Instead, she is pushed from the tower (thankfully she's still attached to the zip wire); when she frees herself, she grabs a gun and heads back to the roof, just in time to see Nick open the briefcase and the money blow everywhere.

Audrey then attaches Connor to the wire and sends him on his merry way (into a helicopter blade, no less), before viewers are led to believe the bad guy has been caught.

But there's a twist!

Back at the restaurant, Audrey notices Saira is bleeding - only she insists it's not blood, but henna from the wedding day before. As a former hairdresser, Audrey knows henna dries quickly, and then realises that Saira was actually absent from some of the wedding festivities, piecing together that she must be the person behind the kidnapping of her brother, who hired Connor. It makes sense!

She then tries to shoot her brother once more, with the Colonel jumping in front of the bullet. When Saira is arrested (and reveals her motive: being jealous), Vik and Claudette share plans to elope, while Delacroix and tourist Susan are also now in love. Vik then gives Nick and Audrey a bag of cash, as a gift of thanks.

Do they get their happy ending? Er, not quite. The film then ends with Audrey and Nick in a helicopter flying over Athens - with the very same pilot from earlier. He demands the money, grabs it and jumps out the window - leaving the mystery solving couple high and dry in the air.

What does this mean for their future? Could it be setting up a third film? And who is the helicopter pilot? We have questions!
