Jeremy Strong has won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards.

The Succession star beat off competition from Ozark’s Jason Bateman, This is Us star Sterling K Brown, The Morning Show’s Steve Carell, Succession’s Brian Cox and Pose’s Billy Porter to win the award.

As he accepted the prize, he said he wanted to share it with writer Jesse Armstrong and his co-star Brian Cox.

The Independent gave the latest series of Succession a glowing five-star review, with critic Ed Cumming writing that it made “The Sopranos look like The Teletubbies”.

This year’s proceedings took place virtually for the first time in the award show’s 72-year history.
