Emma Stone "Kept Texting" Andrew Garfield About 'Spider-Man' Spoilers

Even Emma Stone couldn't wring out Marvel spoilers from Andrew Garfield.

Speaking to Josh Horowitz on the latest episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Garfield revealed that Stone had texted him multiple times trying to get him to confess that he would appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside Tom Holland's and Tobey Maguire's iterations of the iconic comic book superhero. Garfield and Stone, who dated for four years before splitting in 2015, costarred as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy in the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, which kicked off in 2012. "Emma kept on texting me. She was like, 'Are you in this new Spider-Man film?'" the Tick, Tick…Boom! actor recalled. "And I was like, 'I don't know what you're talking about.'"

But Stone was persistent. "She was like, 'Shut up. Just tell me,'" Garfield continued. "I'm like, 'I honestly don't know—'I kept it going even with her. It's hilarious."

When asked if he ever eventually admitted his cameo to Stone, he replied, "No. And then she saw it and she was like, 'You're a jerk.'"

Since the release of No Way Home, Garfield has opened up about having to hide his and Maguire's multiverse appearances from the press. He compared lying about his involvement with the film to Werewolf, the game in which players have to determine who among them was secretly assigned the identity of a werewolf.

"It was like this massive game of Werewolf that I was playing with journalists and with people guessing, and it was very fun," he told The Wrap. "I placed myself in that position of, Well, what would I want to know? Would I want to be toyed with? Would I want to be lied to? Would I want to be kept on my toes guessing? Would I want to discover it when I went to the theater? Would I want to be guessing, guessing, guessing?"
