Eminem Apologized to Rihanna on His Surprise Album

Eminem dropped an unexpected album today, Music to Be Murdered By — Side B, a companion piece to his 10th studio album, Music to Be Murdered By, which was released back in January. In a new track, "Zeus," Eminem (real name Marshall Bruce Mathers III) offered an apology to Rihanna, more than 10 years after an unreleased track contained lyrics that referenced her and Chris Brown.

"But, me, long as I re-promise to be honest / And wholeheartedly, apologies, Rihanna," the lyrics read. "For that song that leaked, I'm sorry, Ri / It wasn't meant to cause you grief. Regardless, it was wrong of me."

"Zeus" also references Tekashi69, Machine Gun Kelly, Drake, Chance the Rapper, Future, Snoop Dogg, and Migos.

The track also references police brutality with the following lyrics: "And all that we want is racial equality / R.I.P. Laquan McDonald, Trayvon, and Breonna, Atatiana, Rayshard, and Dominique, Eric Garner and Rodney King."

The Rihanna apology addresses leaked lyrics — which were in a song that was never released — that surfaced last November and stated that he'd "of course" side with Chris Brown: "I'd beat a bitch down, too."

"This is a leak of something that's over 10 years old. After Eminem recorded it, he scrapped it, and rewrote it. Obviously, he and Rihanna have a great relationship," a spokesperson for Eminem said last year after the track hit the internet.

Entertainment Tonight reports that the line was written after Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault involving Rihanna. Eminem and Rihanna collaborated on the 2010 song "Love the Way You Lie," which appeared on his album Recovery.
