After the feverish panic (or, indeed, excitement), over the weather forecast, the next inevitable stage of pre-Glastonbury chatter are the rumoured surprise acts. And so it goes. Days before the festival opens, organiser Emily Eavis has been forced to deny that Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper will reunite at Worthy Farm.

Eavis started her week by dashing hopes on Twitter, posting: “Before this one gets out of control the answer is no, that isn’t happening. (Although you can watch the amazing A Star Is Born in our Pilton Palais cinema tent at 4.30pm on Friday.)”

The rumour was powered by a fairly legitimate source: seasoned BBC Glastonbury presenter Edith Bowman. Bowman told Sunday Brunch viewers that Cooper said he had been discussing returning to the festival with Glastonbury organisers.

“On my podcast I had Bradley Cooper talking about A Star is Born, and when I spoke to him I was like ‘I just want to see you guys do a gig, you know play it live.’

“He was like, “Well, we have been talking to Nick (Dewey) and Emily Eavis about it, we’d do the Park Stage’ and I said ‘That would be amazing!’ Bradley Cooper and Gaga doing the Park Stage.”

Cooper made an unlikely – and unexpected – appearance at Glastonbury in 2017 to film performance scenes for the Oscar-nominated film, which has considerably improved the actor's standing as a musical artist.

Lady Gaga has been absent from the festival for a decade, when she gave a riotous set on the Other Stage.  The star is, however, currently preparing for her Las Vegas residency and therefore unlikely to swap her spike-heels for wellies.
