Emily Blunt’s Oscars Dress Looks Like a Polly Pocket Outfit (& We’re Not Sure How to Feel About It)

It may have been the year of Barbie, but we’re being reminded of a different doll at the 2024 Oscars.

When Emily Blunt stepped out onto the red carpet at this year’s 96th Academy Awards, she stunned in a sequined, Champagne-hued Schiaparelli gown, Tiffany & Co. jewelry and silver platforms…but we couldn’t help but be reminded of our other favorite childhood toy, Ms. Polly Pocket.

You see it too, right? The straps: The way they stand away from Blunt’s body looks like Polly’s Pocket’s snap-on wardrobe! (Mind you, we’re talking about the 2004 “Quik Clik” iteration, not the original Polly who was the size of a lentil or the revival Polly, who had stretchy rubber clothes that looked like they would be fun to chew.)

All joking aside, we think Blunt, 41, looked great ahead of the ceremony. Her husband, John Krasinski, even appeared to have coordinated his outfit to hers, wearing a cream-colored suit and Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany Floral Arrows brooch (not to mention a Tiffany 1837 Makers watch and Tiffany cuff links).

And not for nothing, her Oppenheimer castmate Florence Pugh donned a similar Polly Pocket–inspired strap for the evening. Are we seeing a new trend?

Blunt is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of Kitty Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The film itself is nominated for 13 awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Christopher Nolan.

May the best doll win.
