Emilia George Founder Elle Wang's Go-To Kid Snack is Très Parisian

We caught up with the mom of soon-to-be two (baby George has a littles sibling on the way!) to hear how she hacks it: being a working mom, entrepreneur, and fashion plate in NYC during a pandemic. Turns out, she gets by with a little help from some surprising things — from Rodgers and Hammerstein showtunes to books about Trump.

The podcast I’m listening to on repeat

The Michelle Obama Podcast! The former first lady is just such a unique leader. Don’t we just simply want to put her speeches on loop? What I love most about it is a sense of positivity and hope that arises in her podcast so organically. And she happened to choose her husband — my other absolute favorite leader — as her first guest…so I’m pretty hooked.”

The books my son is obsessed with

The Llama Llama series. And he usually requests me to read the story at least three times at his bedtime before he feels satisfied. We bought him a stuffed Llama toy and he gives it plenty of kisses every day.”

What I’m currently reading for myself

“Oh God, please don’t judge me, but I almost finished reading all the latest books on Trump, including Mary Trump’s book and John Bolton’s book. These have replaced The Real Housewives and the Kardashians as my new guilty pleasure. LOL.”

The snacks I always keep on hand for my kid

“George LOVES croissants! I like to snack when I’m in a car, so my go-to snack is a croissant from any nearby coffee shop. His eyes widen whenever he sees the little brown paper bags because he knows there are croissants in them! We don’t give him much, just a few tiny nibbles. He always looks so happy and smiles at me or my husband when he gets his croissants.”

The beauty product that’s always in my bag

“Eye cream and moisturizer. I don’t do makeup unless there is a photo shoot or some event. I have been using eye cream since I was in college. If I don’t put moisturizer on my face within 10 seconds after I wash my face, I can feel my face tighten up and get red. I would love to have time to put lotion all over my body all the time, but god knows it’s impossible to have the time as a working mom/mompreneur. I keep a small moisturizer in my purse wherever I go for the same reason I carry water with me. Our body, including our skin, needs constant hydration to function well.”

The apps that make my life as a parent easier

“I’m not very app-savvy, but I do enjoy the Mom groups I’m in on Facebook and Wechat. As first-time parents, it is incredibly reassuring to see how other parents are going through the same worries or other children going through the same symptoms or behaviors. I get a lot of my parenting questions answered or further clarified by those conversation threads. And moms are incredibly responsive to questions posted in these groups.”

The parenting accounts I love to follow

“Mindr, Mother.ly, WorkingMomkind and so many IG accounts that have ‘Mom’ in the username. These accounts provide powerful channels for moms in real life to share their experiences and vulnerabilities. They are even more helpful during COVID-19 when everyone’s exploring a new way of parenting during quarantine.”

The non-screen activity that keeps my kid occupied for hours

“He loves music. Our friend gave him a toy orchestra set and he loves playing different instrument sounds. He could play with any musical toys by himself for a while. My husband and I decided early on to avoid screen time for him for as long as we can. George is 17 months old and luckily, he doesn’t seem to be eager to watch TV. He does love seeing our computer screens and banging on our keyboards, though we usually keep him away from the computers too.”

The kid-friendly music I don’t hate playing around the house

The Sound of Music! Oh, I love this song. I still remember there was a play in high school for a few students to sing this song and I was not selected — that was disappointing! LOL… So I’m reliving my high school years when singing along with Google Home to George.”

The kid subscription I love

Lovevery! We love every single toy and book from this subscription. They are so smartly designed and proven age-appropriate. We may love the set even more than George does.”

Favorites for kid skincare / bath

“I know there are so many newer brands for baby products, but I’m still sticking to Mustela, which we started to use since George was born. I would love to hear more recommendations on baby bath/skincare products from other parents.”

The under-the-radar kids fashion brands I love

“My mom and I both love Miki House! It’s a Japanese brand, and we first saw their clothes and shoes at Bloomingdales. Their clothes are so colorful and comfortable. Since I have my own sustainable maternity brand, Emilia George, I always pay very close attention to fabrics. Their stuff is good!”

How I keep my mom wardrobe on point

“I only wear my own brand Emilia George since we launched in 2019, but I always appreciate other sustainable brands. One of my favorites is Rachel Pally. I think they are pretty well-known by now. I loved their jumpsuit (the jumpsuit was purchased a while ago, so I can no longer find a product link) and the Piper dress! I also got to meet Rachel in person, totally by chance while we were both waiting at the valet at an event in LA. I was bawling as my son was having a fever… and she comforted me!”
