We've had some creepy, muted trailers for John Krasinski's horror movie, A Quiet Place, before. In the movie, a husband and wife (Krasinski himself, playing opposite his real-life partner, Emily Blunt) try to protect their kids and navigate a post-apocalyptic Earth inundated with scary monsters. Those scary monsters seem to leave you well enough alone until you make a noise; then all hell breaks loose. Here's the latest trailer, which features the first words actually spoken in the film's entire marketing campaign.
This is just Krasinski's third film he's directed, but it certainly feels very accomplished in its atmosphere. It's a great hook, too, that teases out the very scariest parts of a horror movie—the silence and the waiting—to a feature-length experiment. We see all kinds of creative ways this family keeps the peace: walking barefoot through the woods over a powder they pour out, for example. Of course, things go to shit because don't they always? Emily Blunt seemingly gives birth while having to stay silent (and it looks like she doesn't succeed). And at one point, they're foiled by a battery-operated beeping rocket. Hey, guys, don't give your kid a beeping rocket!
A Quiet Place is due out on April 6.
