The Haunting of Hill House Season Two on Netflix: Everything to Know About The Haunting of Bly Manor

The first season of Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House was both terrifying and gut-wrenchingly emotional—a perfect combination to draw in viewers. The series, loosely based on the 1959 novel by Shirley Jackson, told the story of the Crain family across two different timelines as we tried to figure out how the ghosts of their past (both literal and figurative) may have caused the traumas of their present.

Though The Haunting of Hill House was a big hit, the story was largely wrapped up by the final episode. That isn’t stopping Netflix: The streaming service announced in 2019 that there would be a second season. Well, sort of. Instead of revisiting the Crains and the ghosts of Hill House, the second season will become an installment in an anthology the service is calling The Haunting. That means season two will have a totally new story, setting, and characters. In other words, say goodbye to the Bent-Neck Lady and hello to some some as-yet-unseen ghost or creature to haunt our dreams.

If the whispers in the first teaser trailer are any indication, we’re in for another creepy ride:

Here’s everything we know so far about the new season.

The release date. October 9. Netflix confirmed the date in late August.

The house. While we don’t yet have much information about what lies inside, we do know that the Bly Manor is the new Hill House. According to Entertainment Weekly, The Haunting of Bly Manor follows the story of “an American nanny who becomes the new au pair to two orphaned children (played by Amelie Bea Smith and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) in 1980s England. The kids need a new caretaker because their previous one (Tahirah Sharif) tragically died on the grounds of their family manor in the town of Bly.”

The inspiration. The new season will be based on the works of Henry James. Bly Manor is the location of his novel The Turn of the Screw.

The cast and crew. First of all, Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy will be developing and producing this new chapter. “Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy are masterful at creating authentically frightening stories that leave audiences on the edge of their seats but unable to look away,” Cindy Holland, vice president of original content at Netflix, said in a statement. “We’re excited to continue our partnership with them on the Haunting series and future projects to come.”

As for the cast, Victoria Pedretti will be back in a brand-new role—this time as a governess named Dani—along with many other original castmates.

Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel, Catherine Parker, and Amelia Eve are also set to return.

As for some new blood, make sure to look out for iZombie's Rahul Kohli in this new season, per Deadline

The first look is here. On August 24, Netflix released the first round of images on Facebook and Twitter, including this really creepy poster:

Warning: There are creepy dolls and creepy children involved.

The first trailer. You’ve already seen a teaser, but it gets creepier.

How am I already terrified?
