This Game of Thrones Theory Says Missandei Could Be a Faceless Man

Just about everyone is spending their free time reading theories about how Game of Thrones will finally end. We'll be one step closer to finding out who gets the Iron Throne after Sunday's upcoming episode, which will detail the highly-anticipated battle of Winterfell. Until then, the theories will continue to pop up—and this one about Missandei is one of the wildest ones we've seen yet.

As a quick refresher, Missandei is Daenerys Targaryen's trusted advisor. Daenerys met her after traveling to Astapor to purchase Unsullied warriors and took a liking to her demeanor and knowledge of 19 languages, including High Valyrian. In more recent episodes, there's been a romantic arc involving Missandei and Grey Worm, the commander of the Unsullied.

However, according to some fan theories, Missandei's mysterious past and dexterity with languages could be clues that she's not actually who we think she is. Some people think she might be one of the Faceless Men of Braavos, an order of mysterious assassins who can change their appearance as they wish. As the theory posits, Missandei might actually be working against Daenerys and trying to foil her plans.

"Missandei told Davos where she was from when they met & Davos told her his travels took him there all the time and she didn't have an accent like someone from there," one Twitter user pointed out. Others have been latching onto the idea of Missandei being a Faceless Man since 2014, pointing to instances in the book where Missandei referred to herself as "this one" and demonstrated really intense, detailed knowledge of how the Seven Kingdoms worked.

Others have shared that even if she's not a Faceless man, Missandei might turn against Dany because of her love for Grey Worm. After Reddit user Jamesik pointed out that Dany received the prophecy that she would be betrayed for blood, gold, and love—the latter two of which have already happened—user mfGLOVE suggests Missandei could go against her friend in order to save Grey Worm.

It all does sound a touch far-fetched, but crazier things have happened on Game of Thrones. Even the actors have admitted they don't really know what insane plot points the creators were planning, so it's tough to rule anything out at this point. Either way, we'll find out in a few weeks.
