This post contains spoilers for the final season of Game of Thrones. Consider yourself warned.
One could argue that Arya Stark has undergone the biggest character transformation over the past eight seasons of Game of Thrones. When the series started, she was a young girl who desperately wanted to play with swords and crossbows rather than sew with the other women of Winterfell. Now she's a highly trained assassin so badass she killed the Night King.
As we head into the final episode, many fans think that Arya is actually the Prince That Was Promised and that she will be the one to kill Daenerys. But there's another, more concerning theory making its way around the Internet that claims Arya is actually already dead.
While this seems rather unlikely, this show has certainly done enough surprising things with fan-favorite characters over the years—so I won't discount it completely. The theory basically hinges on that white horse that Arya rides off on at the end of the last episode. You know the one:
Some think that the horse in question is actually the same horse ridden by the head of the Golden Company—a horse that was killed:
Arya certainly almost died multiple times as Dany and Drogon burned King's Landing, and she tried to run for safety and nearly got trampled. She also had a connection to the horse. (A little girl she tried to save was also clutching a toy white horse.) "Yeah, I'm pretty sure Arya is dead too," one user wrote on Reddit. "She got all burnt up and a building fell on her. They made a point of showing us the death of the horse and the countless deaths of Arya. And yet they both rise from the ashes. If this isn't some lord of light shit, I'm gonna be pissed."
A number of Twitter users also think this could be a solid theory. "The thing is, some fans are convinced that it was the same horse Capt. Strickland was ridding in the beginning of the episode. Which means the horse is actually dead. The theory suggest that the fact that Arya could see and ride the horse secretly means that Arya is dead too," one tweeted. "And I know that yes, Arya is in the next episode’s trailer. But like.. This is Game of Thrones we’re talking. 🙃"
As mentioned above, Arya does appear in the trailer for the finale. Then again, anything is possible on Game of Thrones.
