Ellen Pompeo and Kate Walsh Are Firing Up 'Grey's Anatomy' Fans With Epic New Twitter Exchange

Ellen Pompeo and Kate Walsh can't stop and won't stop bringing up the past.

As fans who follow the duo on social media know all too well, the actors and real-life friends love to reminisce about the on-screen drama between their iconic Grey's Anatomy characters. Ellen, of course, continues to star on the ABC medical drama as Dr. Meredith Grey, whose character had an affair with Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) in season one while he was still married to Kate's character, Dr. Addison Shepherd.

Just this week, Kate tapped into this Meredith-Addison-Derek love triangle for fun. It all started with the Private Practice star retweeting a viral internet meme from pop culture critic Allison Shoemaker. The meme labeled Derek and Meredith as "summer plans" and Addison as the COVID-19 "Delta variant." (For reference, this meme is part of a viral trend where users are putting two pop culture pictures side-by-side, with one signifying what they hope their summer or fall plans will look like and the other representing how the rising COVID-19 Delta variant is threatening to ruin those plans.)

Not missing a beat, the Instagram account Comments by Celebs caught Ellen responding to Kate's retweet. Ellen wrote, "Exactly .. cue Bruno's Marrs [sic.] song ... oh you got plans ... no don't say that 😥."

Though Ellen's comment appears to have been deleted, fans seemed to enjoy the spot-on Kate-Meredith-Derek reference and responded to the exchange by tagging other Grey's viewers. As for Kate, when she saw that Comments by Celebs had shared the exchange on Instagram, she wrote in the comments section "😏😏😏😏."

In case you missed it earlier this month, Kate and Ellen had another noteworthy social media moment. After Kate regrammed a video of a dog dozing off with a sleeping cat inside its mouth, Ellen wrote, "OMG this is crazy!" Hilariously, Kate quipped back with a bit of Addison shade: "@ellenpompeo Do u think she was sleeping with her husband?! 😂."

If we had to guess, it won't be long before Ellen and Kate are back at it again.
