The Ellen DeGeneres Show was briefly taken off Australia’s Channel Nine network.
The show’s 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. slot had been filled with Desperate Housewives.
Now that negotiations have happened, the show is back.
Update: September 4, 2020
Looks like Ellen’s cancellation was just temporary, y’all—according to the Daily Mail, The Ellen DeGeneres Show will be coming back to Australia’s Channel Nine on September 22, seeing as the network reached a deal with Warner Bros. And yes, that includes the upcoming season!
Let’s not get it twisted though. Channel Nine allegedly considered walking away from the deal. Last month, former Channel Nine executive Rob McKnight said Ellen’s toxic work environment drama came “at the perfect time during a negotiation period” and gave them “bargaining power” to walk away. Ultimately, they decided against it.
Looks like Australians will have to enjoy their new 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. slot until Ellen’s show comes back!

Welp, it looks like Ellen DeGeneres’s TV show drama is starting to catch up with her…and fast. Although there’s no official word on whether The Ellen DeGeneres Show will be canceled in the U.S. (yet), Australia is already leading the charge. Who knew Ellen’s show even aired Down Under, but Australia’s Channel Nine decided to stop showing Ellen on television as of, like, today.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show used to air on Channel Nine between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m., but the show has been replaced. According to the Daily Mail, “Discussions between Nine and Warner Bros. regarding broadcast rights for the upcoming season, which begins next month, are said to be ‘ongoing.’” FWIW, Australians who are just dying to watch The Ellen DeGeneres Show can do so by tuning in to 9Gem.
Right now, no one really knows what the future holds for Ellen and her show, but James Corden is reportedly next in line to take her place. A July report from The Sun claimed James is the likely “the long-term successor” and replacing Ellen is extremely possible. “This issue has fast-tracked everything and made everyone look at the future today,” the insider said. “James Corden was being eyed for Ellen’s job in the long term before any of this came to light.”
“James and his team have been trailblazers in modern TV, taking the once considered graveyard chat show slot into a cutting-edge format with huge online, social media, and global recognition,” the source continued. “Replacing Ellen was always going to be a tough challenge, but he is a natural fit and easy transition. James would freshen up daytime and with a free hand would be allowed to build a new afternoon era.”
In conclusion: Keep your eyes peeled for more dramatic updates.
