Elisabeth Moss admitted she “blacked out” after hearing she won the Emmy for “The Handmaid’s Tale”
It must be pretty intense to be nominated alongside so many other incredible talents. That’s why we totally understand Elisabeth Moss saying she “blacked out” after her Emmy win for the incredible, yet haunting show The Handmaid’s Tale. Moss, who played the lead role of Offred in the Hulu hit, won the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series — and her speech was absolutely lovely (even if she had a hard time remembering it!)
As mentioned, Moss had quite the competition. She was up against Viola Davis, Keri Russell, Claire Foy, Robin Wright, and Evan Rachel Wood — all who had standout roles in their own shows.
While Moss has been nominated before for her role in Mad Men, this is the first time she’s scored a win.
“I think I blacked out, honestly…I don’t really remember much of it,” she admitted to E! News. “I’ve never experienced them actually calling my name, so it was a very strange feeling.”
She also admitted that when the moment came, she was so shocked that she felt as if she wasn’t even in her own body.
“It’s like an out of body experience,” she continued. “And then you immediately try to remember everybody you have to thank!”
One of the reasons why we dug Moss’s speech? She had to be censored. The part that got bleeped out was when she called her mom a “f*king badass,” which we absolutely love.
The fact that her mother was in the audience made the ode — which got a ton of applause — even more special.
The Handmaid’s Tale is set to return for a second season in 2018. While Moss admitted in an interview with The Pool that it was going to be incredibly dark, we still can’t wait to tune in.
