Elastigirl is the superhero the world needs in new retro 'Incredibles 2' spot (exclusive)

Brad Bird’s The Incredibles is one of Pixar’s most beloved hits, which is why anticipation is extremely high for the long-awaited follow-up The Incredibles 2, set to arrive in theaters in one month. Once again focused on the Parr family, which is secretly a clan of superheroes, the sequel should deliver a delirious dose of family-friendly action for young and old alike, again tapping the retro vibe central to the original. And in a new TV spot premiering exclusively here on Yahoo Entertainment, it’s clear to see that its matriarch will be front and center in this new adventure.

To promote the surefire blockbuster, Disney is rolling out a series of vintage-style character-based ads featuring individual theme songs, and the above one for Elastigirl (voiced by Holly Hunter) proves the stretchy wife and mom won’t be taking a backseat to anyone in Incredibles 2. With an old-school feel somewhat reminiscent of the original Wonder Woman TV show, the 30-second clip provides a rocking montage of the loose-limbed heroine piloting a helicopter, riding a speeding motorcycle, and plummeting through the air. It’s all set to a snappy theme song and embellished with a collection of stylish visual effects.

While this spot is specifically for Incredibles 2’s upcoming toy line (May 14 has been branded #IncrediblesDay, and new merchandise announcements are forthcoming), it provides a number of tantalizing glimpses of Bird’s animated work and Elastigirl’s key role.
