Ed Sheeran passes Taylor Swift, breaks concert record at MetLife Stadium

Ed Sheeran broke the MetLife Stadium attendance record on Sunday night with a total of 89,106 fans in the audience. The feat follows a similar accomplishment achieved by Taylor Swift less than a month ago, when her first night playing at the stadium drew over 82,000 attendees.

Sheeran also broke the attendance record at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 3, with over 77,900 people in the audience. The performances take place on a circular stage, allowing audience members to be seated anywhere in a stadium with an unobstructed view.

The singer-songwriter is currently in the middle of the North American leg of his "Mathematics" tour. The show explores his entire discography and lasts about two hours. At MetLife, openers included Khalid and Dylan.

Sheeran released his sixth studio album, "Subtract," last month. The process of creating the album is followed in the Disney+ docuseries “Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All.”

Sheeran showed some Jersey flair in the show. Wearing a black shirt that said “East Rutherford” on it, Sheeran switched to a Jets jersey for the encore.

Aaron Rodgers, the new Jets quarterback, called it an "incredible show" on his Instagram story after attending on Saturday night.
