Eating This Food Can Make You Smell Better to Women

Glad scientists are focused on the important stuff.

By Jack Moore.

You know that thing where you're out to dinner with your significant other and you order some garlicky food and you make that dad joke to both the annoyed waiter and your annoyed partner about how it looks like you won't be kissing later? Well, now you have even more reasons to never make that joke again!

According to a study by researchers at the University of Stirling and Prague's Charles University, eating garlic actually makes you smell better to women. I know. I'm as surprised as you are.

The researchers split a group of men into groups that were told to eat either raw garlic, garlic capsules, or no garlic. Then they had these men wear armpit pads for 12 hours to collect their musk, in what must have been a weird thing for those men to explain to the people in their lives. ("Yeah, it's for a study. You see, I had to eat a bunch of raw garlic... Wait, where are you going?") Those pads were then collected and a bunch of women smelled them (and probably re-examined their lives while they did) and rated them on how good they smelled. The garlic eaters had "more attractive and less intense" body odor.

But before you go out and chow down on a garlic clove like it's an apple, I'd like to remind you of some important things. First, if you're going on a date, you're probably wearing deodorant to take care of your natural body odor. Second, this will still jack up your breath and I don't care how good your "musk" smells, if your mouth smells like you're trying to kill Dracula, nobody's going to want to kiss you. Third, I'm not totally convinced that these researchers aren't actually doing a far more complicated study to see if they can get the men of the world to make themselves even more disgusting to women by throwing a little science at them. So dig into that garlicky pasta, but know you may be part of an international prank being played by Czech researchers.
