Easy to Miss: Diver Spots Stargazer Fish in Ambush Mode as It Waits for Prey

With its tapered body, large head and upturned mouth, the common stargazer has an almost bulldog-like appearance as it swims about. But it takes on an altogether creepier aspect as it hides in the sand, waiting for its prey.

Jules Casey, a Victoria diver, filmed the fish swimming about and in ambush mode. “You can be excused for swimming by and missing this impressive fish,” she wrote on Instagram.

The stargazer is “definitely one of the creepiest looking fish when they are buried and ready to ambush their prey,” she said. Credit: Jules Casey via Storyful
