Dylan Mulvaney responds to being misgendered on Instagram

Dylan Mulvaney has revealed how she responds to being misgendered online, admitting that she's learnt to tune out the transphobic hate she sometimes receives.

Speaking to People, Dylan opened up about being misgendered after her appearance at the Grammy Awards. "I felt so beautiful that day in Christian Siriano, Brad Goreski dressed me, [and] I had my makeup by this fabulous trans artist, Laurel Charleston," the TikTok star recalled.

"[But] on my Instagram page, there's still people commenting, 'You're a man, you're a guy'," she went on, explaining how she reacted to reading the hurtful comments. "I started laughing because I then was looking at that same picture, and I saw a beautiful woman, who was me. It almost felt silly that they would write something like that."

Dylan continued: "I'm just so happy that I'm getting to a place where that doesn't affect me quite as much, because it's not actually productive. If I am to live in those feelings, I can't be that 'it girl' that you call me."

More recently, Dylan took to socials to call out a critic who said she "still looks very much like a man".

"Oh babes I think you have the wrong profile," she said in response. "There's no men that live here, not one in sight," Dylan added, writing in the caption: "Helping out a confused follower."

But, the 'Days of Girlhood' star said there are some comments online that she listens to: those from the trans community.

"I've had a lot of other TikTokers on trans TikTok make videos addressing me or talking about me," she told People. "Those are the ones that really have helped me learn and grow because it's actually very helpful to hear from the community I'm a part of about what they need from me and my platform, and also acknowledging when I am doing something good."
