'DWTS' Lauren Alaina Has Been Competing With 3 Broken Ribs, and No One Knew

Monday night's Halloween-themed episode of Dancing With The Stars brought many spooky surprises, but the biggest shock came from contestant Lauren Alaina. After performing an impressive Argentine Tango, the country singer revealed that she's been competing with three (Yes, three!) broken ribs.

Alaina and her partner Gleb Savchenko performed a vampire-inspired Argentine Tango on Monday night's show and, apart from a few critiques about a small slip on Alaina's part, received high praise from the show's judges. Judge Len Goodman told the couple "you were so full of Argentine characterization," later adding "the two of you sparked off of each other."

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba pointed out Alaina's misstep but said that is was what she did with it — seamlessly got back up and kept dancing like nothing happened — was amazing and showed she had a strong core.

After the judges comments, Alaina, to the shock of the judges, fans, and the show's hosts, revealed that her core was far from being as strong as it could be. She said that she fractured a rib on the left side of her ribcage during the first week of the competition and now has three fractured ribs. "They don't feel great," Alaina said. Savchenko appeared incredibly supportive of his partner, stating "I’m so proud that she got through it. We had tough week."

Fans watching at home took to social media to share their amazement at Alaina's ability to dance so magnificently through what they could only imagine to be some pretty severe pain.

Even with three broken ribs, Alaina and Savchenko got 9s across the board from the judges, leaving them tied for the highest score of the night.
