  • Dancing With the Stars season 29 began Monday night on ABC.

  • Tiger King star Carole Baskin and new host Tyra Banks drummed up a bit of online attention during the premiere after having an "awkward" exchange.

  • Carole earned an 11 out of 30 for her Paso to "Eye of the Tiger" with her partner Pasha Pashkov.

  • Last night marked Tyra's first night hosting the 2020 season after former co-hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews were let go by the network this summer.

Dancing With the Stars season 29 kicked off last night, and Carole Baskin came out with a roaring performance.

To end the evening, the Tiger King star and her partner Pasha Pashkov danced the Paso to, fittingly, "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor. Although she ended up scoring the lowest point total of the evening, an 11 out of 30, Carole still earned lots of applause from her fellow season 29 contestants watching in the studio.

Before she started grooving, Carole seemed energetic and excited for her performance. But when host Tyra Banks, who took over for Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews this year, asked her if she had "tapped into her inner tiger" after her dance, Carole didn't respond. Instead, the Tiger King star simply looked at Tyra and smiled, prompting the host to cut right away to judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli.

Watch the exchange below:

Though it was only a brief interaction, some DWTS viewers found the moment to be ... well, a little awkward. "Did Carole not hear Tyra orrr was she so shook she couldn't speak lmao wheww that was awkward as H--L," one fan commented. "Carole Baskin not responding to Tyra was just so awkward for tv I can’t #DWTS," someone else chimed in.

Regardless of what actually happened, Carole proudly walked off the stage with her head held high after getting her scores, and the season 29 premiere came to an end.

Overall, the night was a success, especially for Justina Machado and Sasha Farber and Skai Jackson and Alan Bersten. Both duos earned a 21 out of 30 and are currently sitting at the top of the leaderboard. Meanwhile, Carole and Pasha have their work cut out for them, as do Charles Oakley and Emma Slater (12 out of 30) and Chrishell Stause and Gleb Savchenko (13 out of 30). Onto next week!
