This Dutch War Drama Is the New #1 Movie on Netflix

Step aside, Going in Style, because this historical drama has crept up Netflix’s top-rated list.

Introducing The Forgotten Battle, a Dutch World War II film that depicts the Battle of Scheldt. The flick just recently premiered on the streaming service, and it’s already claimed the number one spot on Netflix’s list of most-watched movies. (It’s currently ranked ahead of Going in Style, Sharkdog’s Fintastic Halloween, My Little Pony: New Generation, Legacy of Lies and Titanic.)

So, what is The Forgotten Battle about? The movie takes place in German–occupied Zeeland, shortly after the Normandy landings. It follows a woman named Teuntje Visser (Susan Radder), who joins the Dutch resistance after her brother’s execution. She soon learns the reason behind his death: He was secretly photographing German soldiers and sharing information with the Dutch. So, she agrees to complete his mission by smuggling his photographs to the Allied forces.

In addition to Radder, The Forgotten Battle also stars Gijs Blom (Marinus van Staveren), Jamie Flatters (William Sinclair), Jan Bijvoet (Doctor Visser), Tom Felton (Tony Turner), Coen Bril (Henk Schneijder), Theo Barklem-Biggs (John), Scott Reid (Nigel), Marthe Schneider (Janna), Ronald Kalter (Dirk Visser), Justus von Dohnányi (Oberst Berghof), Mark van Eeuwen (Pim den Oever), Richard Dillane (Captain Sinclair) and Gordon Morris (Sergeant Mackay). The movie was directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. (Red Rain), while Paula van der Oest (Accused) and Jesse Maiman (Collision Bend) penned the screenplay.

Guess it’s time to add The Forgotten Battle to our streaming queue.
