Duke freshman Trevon Duval will declare for the NBA draft, the point guard announced on social media Wednesday afternoon.

The 6-foot-3 point guard averaged 10.3 points and 5.6 assists per game this season for the Blue Devils, and racked up 207 assists, the fourth most by a Duke freshman.

“We wish Trevon the very best,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a statement. “He showed unbelievable improvement, especially at the end of the year. His athleticism and his ability to guard at the next level will help him. We know that great things will happen for Trevon as he embarks on his pro career and we will be watching and supporting him every step of the way.”

Duval was once considered a lottery pick for the 2018 draft, and was one of the best point guards in the nation coming out of high school last season. He is now projected to be a late first round pick in the draft, according to nbadraft.net, after an up-and-down season that didn’t live up to expectations.

Duke has signed Tre Jones — the younger brother of former Duke point guard Tyus Jones — in its 2018 class. The McDonald’s All-American is expected to be the Blue Devils’ next starting point guard.

Duval joins Marvin Bagley III as the second Duke freshman to turn pro. Bagley announced his decision last week, and is projected to be a high lottery pick.
