Drew Barrymore Just Shared the Game-Changing Hair Serum She Uses for Body and Shine

Drew Barrymore shared the hair serum she and tons of reviewers swear by to build body and add shine to her locks.

The actress shared the secret behind her stunning locks in a recent photo posted to Instagram while on set for The Drew Barrymore Show. In the photo, she stands alongside JVN founder, Jonathan Van Ness, holding the JVN Complete Instant Recovery Leave-In Serum and a piece of burnt toast. In the caption, she wrote, “You won’t believe how amazing this JVN Complete Instant Recovery Serum is.”
And if you’re wondering what the burnt piece of toast has to do with anything, Barrymore also provides an explanation. “We used the @cookwithbeautiful toaster and popped in this piece of toast 🍞with this magical heat protectant ONLY on one area… and it DIDN’T BURN!”
Van Ness prepped and styled Barrymore’s hair using products from his brand during the show. But before giving her a blowout, he gave Barrymore a quick demonstration using a piece of bread, to show her why a heat protectant is necessary before using hot tools. After applying the leave-in serum on one section of the bread, he popped it into a toaster for a few seconds, and the side of the bread without any product was completely burnt, proving how well the product works.
“Oh my god..this is why we use a heat protectant,” said Van Ness, while holding up the burnt piece of toast. “This is what’s happening to your hair if you don’t use a heat protectant,” he added.
The leave-in serum is formulated with a bunch of nourishing ingredients that work to repair and reinforce the inner strength of the hair. Its key ingredients include hemisqualane, charged lemon protein, and niacinamide, which all work together to reduce damage and strengthen the cuticles from the inside and out.
Niacinamide (also known as nicotinamide) is a form of vitamin B3. “This is also called niacin, which is an essential nutrient for the development and function of the cells in your body,” said Annie Gonzalez, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist at Riverchase Dermatology in Miami, in a previous interview for Prevention. B-complex vitamins are also needed to support healthy skin, hair, and to help the nervous system function properly.
The no-rinse formula is also vegan, color-safe, and silicone-free, making it safe to use on all hair types, according to the brand.
