Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in May

Dragon Ball games are finally getting updated for current-gen consoles. A week after the announcement of Dragon Ball FighterZ’s arrival on modern consoles, Bandai Namco has revealed when Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will be given the same treatment. The open-world action game will be getting visual and gameplay enhancements on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Xenoverse 2 will be released on current-gen consoles on May 24, 2024. Dragon Ball’s official website has also published a video showcasing the game’s last-gen and current versions running side-by-side. I’m sure the new version will look and run better, at a higher resolution targeting equally higher frame rates, but the comparison video is basically useless. You can hardly tell if there has been any improvement at all, so we’ll just need to wait for the update to drop. The official blog post confirms that the new versions will offer “improved graphics and partially reduced load times”, so that’s a relief.

Bandai Namco didn’t reveal any details about the upgrade path, but given how other Dragon Ball games have received free upgrades, it shouldn’t be much of an issue. Besides the port to current-gen systems, Xenoverse 2 will also get new content in 2024, including a new scenario, and additional playable characters.

Since its release almost eight years ago, the game has added over a dozen new playable characters with DLC packs, including characters from Dragon Ball Super. With Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero releasing this year fans are already getting anxious about the possibility of a Xenoverse 3. It remains to be seen whether a new Xenoverse game is in development.
