On this episode of Dragged, host Thorgy Thor (@thorgythor) ushers contestant Samm Santos into the world of drag for the first time ever. Day to day, Samm admits that his style is “pretty comfortable and [casual], but when I go out I like to do it up, which is a form of drag.” Ultimately, Samm wants to wear his insides on his outside and be the most confident version of himself he can be. “I want to become a heightened version of myself or somebody else,” he tells Thorgy. “What does that look like?”

Thorgy couldn’t be more excited. “I love it,” she says. “We’re gonna make you feel confident, powerful, and ridiculous.”

First it’s off to the fashion closet with stylist, Elle LC. Thorgy tells Elle LC that Samm’s biggest priority for his drag persona is confidence. After hearing that, Elle LC is sure she has the perfect outfit. “When you say ‘confident,’ I think this,” says Elle LC, as she pulls out a bright neon yellow one-piece suit. “She’s gorgeous, glittery, but [the] best part? Cheeks out,” says the stylist, as she turns the garment to reveal a very high cut backside.

“Oh you’re talking like, full butt out,” affirms Thorgy. “This is a lot. She’s gonna be like, ‘This is [a] queen in the making.’”

With the perfect outfit secured, it’s off to makeup to make sure Samm’s drag look is full-on queen from head to toe.

In the makeup chair with makeup artist, Blue, Samm is starting to feel his outside matching his insides. All that’s left is a name. Inspired by Blue’s name, Samm likes the idea of a name that gives a nod to the color yellow. But, being from Brazil, where the word for yellow is “amarelo,” Samm decides to go with Ama Rio for his drag name.

Finally emerging as Ama Rio herself, the confidence in Samm is palpable. Thorgy asks how Samm feels as Ama Rio, to which he responds “I feel so powerful . . . It’s insane. I’m a different person.”

“Did you catch the drag bug?” asks Thorgy. “I think so,” responds Samm as Ama Rio. “Now I have to do this every day.”
