Dr. Jill Biden Wears Another American Designer on Her First Full Day

The new FLOTUS is making a statement.

Yesterday was the new administration's first full day in office, and they started off the day with a virtual inaugural prayer service. And Dr. Jill Biden proved once again that she plans to bring her best style game to the White House.

The newest FLOTUS wore a custom fuchsia Brandon Maxwell dress with a long string of pearls— perhaps a nod to Vice President Harris's campaign staple or Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to U.S. Congress and first woman to run for the Democratic presidential nomination. She paired the look with nude, pointy-toe pumps, pearl bracelets, and gold bangles. The dress had a subtle flounce at the bottom, giving the sleek, sophisticated look a hint of fun.

And this may not have been the only meaning behind the fashion choice. Brandon Maxwell is a U.S. designer from Texas who now bases his eponymous brand out of N.Y.C.

"We were so thrilled, honored, and proud to wake up this morning and see @flotus Dr. Biden wearing a design of ours as she attended the National Prayer Service," the designer shared on Instagram.

Dr. Biden has continually shown her support for American designers this whole inaugural week. For the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Biden wore an ocean blue matching set by up-and-coming N.Y.C.-based designer Markarian that represented a new beginning. Later, she attended the inaugural evening events in custom Gabriela Hearst, another U.S.-based designer. This gorgeous white and floral ensemble paid homage to the 50 states with the state flowers embroidered along the coat and dress.

Now we know where her daughter (that tux, though) and grandchildren get it from.
