On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that people who are vaccinated no longer have to mask up while outdoors or indoors. However, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the President and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, still has major concerns that the pandemic is far from over. During an interview with CNN, he issued a word of caution about COVID. Read on to find out what he had to say—and to ensure your health and the health of others, don't miss these Symptoms Everyone Needs to Know About During This Pandemic.

Don't "Declare Victory Prematurely," Wars Dr. Fauci

When asked if the pandemic is over, Dr. Fauci insisted that it isn't. "I wouldn't go so far as to say it's essentially over," he said. While he thinks the latest guidance is "a very important step in the direction of trying to get back to some degree of normality," it still doesn't mean that vaccinated people can do all the things they used to before the pandemic.

"You know, I am vaccinated. When can I start doing things a little bit more in the normal trend and being able to go around without a mask indoors, as well as outdoors is really a big step in that direction. So I wouldn't want to declare victory prematurely, but I'm saying this is clearly a step in the direction that we want to go," he explained.

Children Still Need to Wear Masks, Says Dr. Fauci

He also reminded viewers that just because parents are vaccinated, doesn't mean children can stop masking up. "The children do when they're out there playing with their friends and particularly in an endorsed situation," he stated. He also suggests that kids age 12 and up should get vaccinated and that "hopefully by the end of the year" children of any age will be eligible.

Dr. Fauci Has This Message for Vaccine Skeptics—and Says it Will Change Your Life

What does Dr. Fauci say to people who think the vaccine was rushed? "You want to explain to them the rationale of what we're doing," he says. "We want virtually everybody to get vaccinated. What we're doing now with the relaxation of the restrictions on people who have accelerated is trying to get back to normality, which people who get vaccinated deserve to have that. That's been one of the things that's been the concern saying, if I get vaccinated, what difference is it going to make in my life? Hasn't really changed that much. Well, now your life is going to change that much for people who are not vaccinated, this might be an incentive for them to get vaccinated. The decision that the CDC made was not as an incentive to get people vaccinated, but this could actually have the indirect effect of getting people to be incentivized to get vaccinated."

Not Everyone Has Immunity, Says Dr. Fauci

Fauci also pointed out that a good number of Americans don't have full immunity. "More than 40% of adults are not fully vaccinated. Some are partially, but not fully," he said.
