Popular Twitch streamer Dr Disrespect was reportedly banned from the platform on June 26, according to Kotaku, who cited several sources close to Twitch. The apparent ban comes only months after the streamer, whose real name is Herschel "Guy" Beahm IV, signed an exclusive, multiyear deal with Twitch. Several days after reports emerged that he had been banned, Beahm claimed on Twitter that Twitch hadn't even told him "the specific reason behind their decision."

While Dr Disrespect's Twitch channel is down, the statement that Twitch provided to Insider and other media outlets on Friday didn't confirm that the streamer was banned, though seemed to suggest some action had been taken.

"As is our process, we take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. These apply to all streamers regardless of status or prominence in the community," a Twitch spokesperson told Insider on Friday.

That being said, details surrounding the incident are unclear. As The Verge's Sean Hollister noted, Dr Disrespect's channel's disappearance fell just days after Twitch announced in a blog post that it was investigating "recent allegations of sexual abuse and harassment involving Twitch streamers" and would begin issuing "permanent suspensions in line with [its] findings."

Insider has reached out to Twitch for comment on whether the platform can confirm that Dr Disrespect was banned (and if so, the duration and reason for the ban), and Beahm's claim on Twitter that Twitch did not notify him of the "specific reason behind their decision."

The Verge reported that Twitch had declined to deny that claim when asked for comment.

Despite the lack of clear information, several reports emerged on Friday that Dr Disrespect's apparent ban from Twitch was permanent. Esports journalist Rod "Slasher" Breslau reported on Twitter that sources had told him that Dr Disrespect's ban was permanent and that it wasn't DMCA-related. Breslau later tweeted on June 27 that he had been told by sources the reason behind the apparent ban, but "due to the importance and sensitivity around the subject I have refrained from going on it." Kotaku also reported that three sources close to Twitch told Kotaku that the ban was permanent.

If Dr Disrespect has indeed been banned from the platform, it wouldn't be the first time. The streamer was issued a two week ban after livestreaming from the bathrooms at E3 in 2019, an act that he later apologized for.
