Dozens Killed in Migrant Shipwreck Off Greece

At least 59 people died in a shipwreck off the Greek coast on Wednesday, June 14, Kathimerini reported, citing the Greek Coast Guard.

The overturned fishing boat was reported to be 30 meters long and was carrying at least 400 people. A total of 104 migrants on the boat were rescued with search efforts ongoing, Kathimerini reported.

The coast guard told Ethnos they feared more people were trapped on the vessel.

The rescued migrants were taken to the Port of Kalamata on Greece’s Peloponnese peninsula, where they were treated by medical staff and volunteers, Ethnos reported. All the hospitals in the region were on standby to receive any injured, Ethnos said.
