Dozens of Drivers Stuck as M62 Hit by Heavy Snow

Heavy snow caused chaos on the M62 motorway near Littleborough, UK, overnight into Friday, March 10.

Footage recorded by Rebecca Appleton shows drivers at a standstill on the motorway, with some weaving in and out of stuck lorries.

Appleton told Storyful that she was travelling from Manchester to Leeds on the M62 and saw dozens of vehicles stuck in the snow.

“When we were there around 30-40 lorries and cars were stuck/struggling to get any further our side,” Appleton said, “We did finally get past, luckily, thank God for 4-wheel drive.”

Local media reported that drivers had been stuck for up to seven hours, with some forced to abandon their cars.

A National Highways statement, cited in local media, said: “Heavy snowfall caused hours of delays between junctions 21 (Milnrow) and 22 (Denshaw) in the early hours of the morning and lane closures were put in place in both directions.”

A spring cold snap has brought heavy snow to parts of England and Wales since Wednesday.

The Met Office issued an amber weather warning for snow and ice for areas near Manchester/Leeds and parts of Wales on Friday. Credit: Rebecca Appleton via Storyful
