Downton Abbey's Jim Carter Is "Delighted" By His Daughter's Role in Bridgerton

While everyone knows iconic British period piece couple, Jim Carter and Imelda Staunton, fewer realize that the pair's acting chops trickled down to the next generation. Carter and Staunton's daughter, Bessie Carter, appears in the Netflix show, Bridgerton. Bessie plays Prudence Featherington, the eldest of the three Featherington sisters (and perhaps the least pleasant).

Staunton has appeared in a number of stage productions and films, notably playing Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter franchise. Carter, of course, is best known for his role as Mr. Carson in Downton Abbey. On an episode of the British television show, Lorraine, Carter opened up about his daughter's recent success.

"We're delighted, it's been a huge success," Carter said, per Hello! "Bessie has had a wonderful time doing it. I'm thrilled on her behalf. They're starting out a second series soon."

Carter is referring to Bridgerton's upcoming, highly-anticipated second season, which is currently in production. The new season will focus on the next social season, after Daphne Bridgerton wedded the Duke of Hastings. Regé-Jean Page, however, will not be returning to the show. It is unclear what the Featherington sisters will be up to this season, but at the end of the first season, it was revealed that Penelope Featherington was the anonymous gossip columnist, Lady Whistledown.

Carter and Staunton have their own big project coming up, as well. The pair will both appear in the second Downton Abbey movie, premiering this Christmas. The new movie is currently in production and Carter noted, per Hello!, that Staunton will reprise her role as Maud Bagshaw, a cousin of the Crawley family.
