Dove Cameron Described What It Was Like to Watch Descendants After Cameron Boyce’s Death

“It feels like Cameron is still here, when you watch it”

Dove Cameron has shared what it was like to watch Descendants following the passing of her costar, Cameron Boyce. Back in July, Cameron died at the age of 20, and following his death, Dove, along with her Descendants castmates have remained outspoken on Cameron's impact.

Speaking with Yahoo, Dove said that she had originally felt "ruined" when she attempted to watch the film. However, she decided to rewatch the film with her best friend, and together, the pair turned the viewing into a celebration. “In light of recent events and in light of it being the last one, and having no premiere, and things like that, my best friend was like, ‘You know, what we're doing today? You're going to put on all of your Descendants merch, we're going to get out your crown, and we're going to cry and make brownies,'" she said. "And we had a marathon, and I was wrecked. I wrote for ages and mourned the loss of it so much." She went on to say that she later viewed the film again with her Descendants costar Booboo.

Dove went on to explain why viewing the films wasn't as painful as she expected and said, "It feels like Cameron is still here, when you watch it... We've all been around each other so much more recently than we usually are than when we're not doing the films. I think it's felt quite healthy, quite like, everything's still kind of the same. It's not. But if we can kind of feel like it is.”

The star previously said that those involved in the film found comfort in one another, and she told fans they might find similar peace in acknowledging the fact that Cameron's work will continue to live on. "The beautiful thing about things that are created to entertain us and make us feel seen is that they exist actually mostly in our minds, even though we're watching something or reading something, really the relationship we have with it is in our mind," she said. "And so the beautiful thing about that is it becomes yours. And so even though these movies might not be happening anymore, those characters are yours, and they're real to you. And so they can live forever in you."

Along with enjoying and supporting Cameron's work, family and friends also previously encouraged fans to participate in a social media campaign tied to the Cameron Boyce foundation. Following his death, the foundation was created to carry on Cameron's work and a recent pictorial movement was started to raise awareness about gun violence.
