Doug Gilmour returning to Toronto Maple Leafs in community role
NHL legend Doug Gilmour is returning to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Hockey Hall of Famer told Dan Robson of The Athletic via an open letter that he is stepping down as president of the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League.
He will serve as a community representative with the Leafs.
“After 11 years with the Frontenacs, it’s time for me to move on to the next chapter. I’ve decided to step aside as president of an organization that has meant as much to me as any I’ve ever been part of.
At the same time, I’m excited to return to another: the Toronto Maple Leafs.”
He’s joining a number of notable Leaf alumni holding the same position with the club. Darryl Sittler, Curtis Joseph, Wendel Clark, Darcy Tucker and George Armstrong all represent the Maple Leafs as community representatives.
Gilmour played 393 games with the Maple Leafs, scoring 131 goals and registering 452 points.
